Pakistan’s Cystic Fibrosis Research Gains International Recognition at Australasian Conference

Dr. Muhammad Fareeduddin , Consultant Pediatrician and Lead of the Cystic Fibrosis Program at Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) , represented Pakistan at the 16th Australasian Cystic Fibrosis Conference 2026 in Geelong, Australia.

For the first time, Pakistan’s cystic fibrosis data was presented at this prestigious international conference through a scientific poster titled “CFTR Profiles and Phenotypic Associations in Pakistani Children and Adults with Suspected Cystic Fibrosis.” The study highlighted the genetic and clinical characteristics of Pakistani patients with suspected cystic fibrosis, offering valuable insights into the country’s CFTR mutation spectrum and contributing to the global understanding of cystic fibrosis in an underrepresented population.

The presentation marks a significant milestone for cystic fibrosis research in Pakistan and reflects the growing contribution of locally generated evidence to the international scientific community. Dr. Fareeduddin’s participation also highlighted the work of IHHN’s multidisciplinary Cystic Fibrosis team in advancing diagnosis, genetic testing, research, and specialized patient care.

By bringing Pakistan’s experience to an international platform, the presentation helped raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by people living with cystic fibrosis in the country while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and international collaboration.
