In a groundbreaking achievement, the Indus Hospital Blood Center (TIHBC) in Korangi, Karachi, has successfully passed the on-site AABB accreditation audit, becoming the only site in Pakistan and SAARC countries to attain American standards in blood banking. This accreditation marks a major milestone for blood safety in Pakistan, which has a background of hepatitis infection rate of 7 to 10% in the population, positioning the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) as a trailblazer in healthcare excellence.
Our Clinical Laboratory has achieved accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) on its first attempt, following a successful inspection. This accreditation, which complies with CAP’s rigorous standards, spans various laboratory sections, including Chemical Pathology, Hematology, and Microbiology, reflecting the laboratory’s commitment to high-quality patient care through accurate and reliable test results. The accreditation positions IHHN as a leader in the healthcare field, reinforcing its dedication to quality and patient care.
IHHN-BTS has led the way in initiating voluntary blood donations in urban and rural areas, supported by dedicated teams to meet the nation’s demand for safe blood, adhering to international screening standards.
Previously, life-saving blood was often obtained from professional donors. Despite the inadequacy of their blood for medical use, it was utilized due to the absence of alternatives. Since its inception in December 2013, IHHN’s initiative has experienced significant growth both in scale and reach across the network.
