Indus Hospital Hosts Successful Family Medicine Research Day, Showcasing AI and Medical Advancements

The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) successfully organized its Family Medicine Research Day on Thursday, August 22, 2024. This event brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, and students for an engaging day of learning and collaboration.

The event commenced with an exciting Poster Competition, where researchers from various departments presented fifteen innovative projects. The posters showcased the latest advancements in medical research, particularly in family medicine and primary care. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with the presenters, engage in discussions, and gain insights into emerging trends. The competition featured posters presented by residents, specialists, and the Primary Care Physicians (PCP) team. Esteemed judges, Dr. Farah Ahmed, Professor of Community Medicine at Ziauddin University, and Dr. Ammad Fahim, Director of ORIC at IHHN, assessed the entries.

Following the competition, two insightful sessions took center stage, focusing on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and medical research.

The first session, titled “AI in Medical Writing and Research Writing,” led by Prof. Faridah Amin, explored how AI is revolutionizing the research process. Prof. Amin discussed how AI tools are aiding researchers in data analysis, literature reviews, and research paper writing, making these processes faster and more accessible. However, she also highlighted the potential downsides of AI in medical writing, stressing the need for caution.

The second session, “Ethical Implications of AI in Medical Research,” led by Dr. Sumaira Panjwani, delved into the ethical challenges posed by AI integration in healthcare. Dr. Panjwani discussed critical issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the importance of transparent and responsible AI usage in medical decision-making. This thought-provoking session sparked meaningful dialogue among participants, underscoring the need for balancing technological innovation with ethical safeguards.

The day concluded with an awards ceremony, where prizes were presented to the creators of the top three research posters, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the field of family medicine research.

The Family Medicine Research Day proved to be a dynamic platform for exploring the intersection of technology and healthcare.
