Dr. Saima Ali, Head of Emergency Medicine (Adult Section) at Indus Hospital & Health Network, was invited to deliver the keynote at the Penn Emergency Medicine Global Health Case Competition 2026. Organised by the Department of Emergency Medicine at Penn Medicine and the Center for Global Health at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, the competition is a prestigious international platform that invites medical trainees from low- and middle-income countries to present clinical cases from their local emergency care contexts. This year’s event took place as a free virtual competition on 28 May 2026, drawing participants and observers from across the globe.
Dr. Saima Ali discussed the challenges of frontline healthcare providers and the impact of global capacity building on emergency medicine practices. Dr. Saima has led the Adult Emergency Medicine department at Indus University Hospital since 2017 and holds a PhD in Health Professions Education — a distinction that places her at the forefront of clinician-educator practice in Pakistan. She is a published author in national and international peer-reviewed journals and serves as a research faculty member at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). Her research focuses on advocacy for patients’ rights, healthcare worker wellbeing, and the prevention of burnout — issues of pressing relevance to healthcare systems across low- and middle-income settings worldwide.
Dr. Saima Ali’s address to the diverse international audience at the University of Pennsylvania is a source of immense pride for IUHS and a testament to the institution’s commitment to nurturing clinician-educators who contribute meaningfully not only to our own network, but to the advancement of healthcare and health professions education worldwide.
