Patient Safety Awareness Week 2026: Advancing Safety and Sustainability Across IHHN
The Quality & Monitoring Directorate of Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) marked Patient Safety Awareness Week from 13th to 17th April 2026, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening a culture of safety and quality across the network. Building on the reflective series “Karwan-e-Fikar” introduced in 2025, this year’s theme, “Nawaa-e-Sabz,” served as a cohesive thread throughout the week. It highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability, social responsibility, effective governance, and the three core pillars prevention, pathway, and practice in enhancing patient safety and quality of care. All activities were thoughtfully aligned with IHHN’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities, promoting the integration of responsible and sustainable practices into everyday healthcare delivery.
The week commenced with structured engagement activities delivered through two parallel approaches. Interactive sessions were organized with departmental leads, providing a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning. These sessions, led by Geneve Sustainability Center (GSC) – certified facilitators, introduced ESG concepts within the healthcare context and emphasized their relevance to patient safety. Simultaneously, on-ground awareness sessions were conducted across departments, focusing on frontline staff engagement. These floor-based interactions reinforced key patient safety principles and encouraged active participation, ensuring that the message of safety and sustainability reached all levels of the organization and fostered a sense of shared responsibility.
In addition, environmental awareness messages were launched during the week and displayed across HMIS systems as desktop banners, promoting simple, actionable steps toward sustainability. A key highlight of the week was its emphasis on practical change. Staff were encouraged not only to understand ESG principles but also to commit, collaborate, and integrate small yet impactful practices into their daily routines. These included reducing paper and plastic use, conserving energy, minimizing water wastage, and promoting carpooling to help reduce IHHN’s carbon footprint. This participatory approach strengthened ownership, accountability and inspired a shared vision for sustainability.
Patient Safety Awareness Week 2026 concluded as a meaningful and impactful initiative, effectively bridging strategic priorities with day-to-day practices. Through engagement, education, and collaboration, the Quality & Monitoring Directorate continues to drive a culture where safety, quality, and sustainability remain central to healthcare delivery, guided by a shared purpose: to please Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.
