A Milestone in Pediatric Gynecology: RTEH Successfully Conducts Fertility-Saving Surgery
In a groundbreaking achievement for pediatric and women’s health, the Gynecological Surgery Team at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital (RTEH), managed by Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), successfully performed a complex fertility-preserving surgery on a 14 year old girl diagnosed with a rare ovarian germ cell tumor.
Germ cell tumors, though rare, can significantly impact girls under the age of 20 and require timely, specialized intervention. In this case, the surgical team skillfully removed the tumor while preserving the patient’s reproductive system—ensuring not only immediate treatment but also safeguarding her future fertility.
The procedure was led by Dr. Zahida Liaqat, Senior Consultant Gynecologist, with close collaboration from Dr. Umair and Dr. Aqib from the Urology Department, and Dr. Ghulam Nabi from the Anesthesia Department. This multidisciplinary approach reflects RTEH’s commitment to integrated, patient-centered care.
The young patient is currently under post-operative care and is showing promising signs of recovery. This surgery marks a major milestone in RTEH’s journey to provide specialized, compassionate care for women and children, especially in underserved communities.
This case exemplifies the hospital’s dedication to clinical excellence and innovation, with a strong focus on long-term patient well-being. By preserving the reproductive potential of a young girl, the medical team has not only saved a life—but also preserved hope for her future.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital continues to serve as a beacon of quality healthcare in South Punjab, delivering advanced, free-of-cost medical services through the support and vision of Indus Hospital & Health Network.
