Hameeda’s Healing Journey

At the age of 47, Hameeda had already endured a tumultuous health journey, with four children and the scars of past abortions etched upon her soul. Around July 2021, she started experiencing pain in her abdomen but thought nothing of it until the pain grew to the point where she could no longer ignore it.

Unable to afford to go to a private hospital or clinic, Hameeda turned to Indus Hospital, which she heard offered medical care to all patients completely free. When Hameeda first arrived at Indus, she felt unsure, and her heart was heavy with skepticism. She had heard good things about the hospital’s high quality of care from the people in her community but found it hard to believe such services could be offered for free.

However, from the moment Hameeda stepped into Indus and was welcomed by a smiling nurse, her fears began to dissolve. The staff at Indus treated her with utmost care and professionalism, leaving a lasting impression on her heart. Guided by a compassionate doctor, Hameeda underwent a thorough examination and tests, which revealed a problem with her uterus that was causing her to bleed abnormally. It was during this journey of investigations that Hameeda received a diagnosis that brought tears to her eyes – pre-invasive cervical cancer. The disease had taken root within her but had not yet spread into full-blown cancer. To prevent this, Hameeda would have to undergo a hysterectomy – a surgery to remove her uterus.

During this time of despair, Indus became her guiding light; the staff at Indus prepared Hameeda for the next step in her battle against cancer. The doctors and counselors walked alongside her and her family, explaining the procedure, its risks, benefits, and the care she would receive during and after her hysterectomy. What was once a daunting prospect became a journey filled with support and encouragement.

Hameeda vividly recalls the overwhelming relief that washed over her afterward. “I expected to see a bill, but it never came,” she confides, gratitude filling her voice. Indus had not only given her hope but also alleviated the burden of financial worries often accompanying medical care.

Amidst the trials of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hameeda’s surgery had to be postponed for two long years due to her vulnerable health condition. Throughout this time, Indus remained steadfast, offering unwavering support. They called Hameeda for regular follow-up visits at the outpatient clinic, ensuring she was carefully treated through her health challenges.

Finally, the day of the surgery arrived. With a heart full of hope, she was admitted to the hospital, where every aspect of her care was provided free of charge. Medications, in-patient support, counseling, meals, and post-surgery care were all part of the compassionate embrace she found within Indus.

Today, Hameeda is healthy and happy. She tends to her loving family of four with a heart overflowing with gratitude. Indus continues to be a beacon of support, reaching out to Hameeda for follow-up visits, ensuring her health remains a priority.
