Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital Muzaffargarh Hosted Advanced Two-Day Workshop on Rotablation, IVUS & Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL)
In a significant step towards advancing cardiac care and strengthening regional healthcare capacity, the Interventional Cardiology Team from Indus Hospital Karachi, led by Dr. Sajid Dhakam, conducted a two-day outreach visit and hands-on workshop at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital (RTEH), Muzaffargarh.
The visiting team included Dr. Faisal Aslam, Interventional Cardiologist; Mr. Abdul Zaman, Manager Cath Lab; Mr. Muhammad Imran Malik, Supervisor Cath Lab; and Mr. Muhammad Abid, Assistant Technician, Cath Lab, from Indus Hospital Karachi. Working alongside Dr. Muhammad Zaman, Head of Cardiac Services at RTEH Muzaffargarh, the team provided advanced clinical support, knowledge transfer, and practical training to local healthcare professionals.
During the outreach program, several complex coronary interventions were successfully performed, including Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI) with Drug-Eluting Stents (DES), management of multivessel and high-risk coronary artery disease, Rotational Atherectomy (Rotablation) for heavily calcified coronary lesions, Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) for calcium modification, IVUS-guided PCI for enhanced procedural precision, and Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) interventions.
The workshop combined live case demonstrations, interactive discussions, and hands-on learning opportunities, enabling participants to gain practical exposure to advanced interventional cardiology techniques. At the same time, multiple high-risk cardiac patients received specialized treatment that may otherwise have limited access to such procedures.
The successful completion of the outreach visit reflects the shared commitment of Indus Hospital & Health Network and RTEH Muzaffargarh to advancing medical excellence, promoting professional development, and expanding access to cutting-edge cardiac care. Through collaborative initiatives such as this, both institutions continue to strengthen interventional cardiology services and improve access to world-class cardiac treatment for patients across underserved regions of Pakistan.
