Reaching the Unreached: Protecting Children in Remote Balochistan

Through a collaborative initiative between Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, vaccination teams reached the remote village of Sharan Sheikhan in District Musakhel, Balochistan—an area that had never previously received routine immunisation services due to its difficult mountainous terrain and isolation.

In December 2025, IHHN health workers travelled across rugged paths by motorcycle and on foot to vaccinate children who had never received a single routine vaccine. During the visit, 25 zero-dose children were vaccinated for the first time against multiple vaccine-preventable diseases, marking a major step toward improving child health in the community.

This effort is part of a broader initiative supported by Gavi that aims to expand routine immunisation in hard-to-reach areas of Balochistan. Since May 2025, the project has helped vaccinate over 24,000 children, including nearly 4,900 zero-dose children, ensuring that even the most remote communities are connected to life-saving healthcare services.
