POCUS Mastery Series: Elevating Bedside Diagnostics

The Emergency Response Committee (ERC), in collaboration with the Continuing Medical Education (CME) department, successfully conducted a two-part clinical workshop titled “POCUS Mastery Series.” The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals by providing hands-on expertise in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), a vital tool in emergency and critical care.

Day 1: Core Scans & Critical Access (August 1, 2025)

The series commenced with an opening address by Dr. Shafeeq (CEO, North), who highlighted the crucial role of bedside ultrasound in improving patient outcomes. The sessions were led by renowned faculty including Dr. Safdar Sabri (Imaging & Diagnostics), Dr. Zaman (Cardiology), Dr. Sabahat Fatima (Emergency Medicine), and Dr. Asif Yasin (Internal Medicine).
The training covered cardiac POCUS, E-FAST, vascular assessment, and was further enriched by expert-guided hands-on practice, enabling participants to translate theory into practice.

Day 2: Lungs, Lines & Beyond (August 22, 2025)

The second session began with an inspiring note by Dr. Athar Razzaq (Chair CME), emphasizing the importance of expanding POCUS applications across specialties.
The expert panel included Dr. Muhammad Bilal Niazi (Respiratory Physician, Worcestershire Acute Hospital NHS Trust, UK), alongside Dr. Abdul Basit (Vascular Surgery), Dr. Safdar Sabri, Dr. Zaman, and Dr. Sabahat Fatima.
Participants explored thoracic POCUS, pleural procedures, organomegaly, knobology, and advanced scanning techniques. The session featured intensive hands-on practice, engaging discussions, and Q&A opportunities. The international perspective of Dr. Bilal Niazi, combined with the expertise of local faculty, was particularly appreciated by the attendees from emergency medicine, internal medicine, anesthesia, general surgery, and family medicine.

Closing & Acknowledgment

The workshop concluded with certificates and shields presented by Dr. Irfan Javed (Head of Campus) and Dr. Sheraz Hassan (Medical Director) of RTEH Muzaffargarh. The sessions were seamlessly moderated by Dr. Saba Aslam (Emergency Life Support Instructor), ensuring smooth coordination throughout the series.

The POCUS Mastery Series reaffirmed IHHN’s commitment to advancing clinical education and enhancing diagnostic capabilities, equipping healthcare professionals with the skills required for timely and effective patient care.
