Pediatric Urology Meet & Greet Brings Hope, Healing, and Connection for Children and Families

The Pediatric Urology annual Meet and Greet Event is a deeply meaningful initiative that brings together children who are preparing for major reconstructive surgery with those who have already walked that path. We perform approximately ten such surgeries in a year.

This year’s Meet & Greet was held on January 9th. Five children and families awaiting surgery had the opportunity to meet with seven postoperative patients who spoke openly about their journey. Hearing firsthand stories of recovery, resilience and positive outcomes helps to replace anxiety with hope. These honest conversations allowed families to see beyond the surgery itself and envision life after it—stronger, healthier, and full of possibility.

The heart of the event lies in connection aimed at creating a safe and reassuring space where experiences are shared and fears are gently eased. It is an annual event, and we have conducted a total of three thus far. The interactive nature of the session encourages open dialogue, enabling children and parents to ask questions, voice concerns and share their own hopes and dreams. It also fostered a deeper bond between families and the healthcare team reinforcing trust, empathy and lifelong partnership.

This Meet and Greet addresses the emotional and psychological needs of our patients along with their surgical care—reminding every child and family that they are not alone and that healing is a shared journey.
