The inaugural Pakistan Education Summit, held on January 25, 2025, at the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park (NASTP), marked a pivotal moment in the journey toward educational and societal reform. Founder of Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, stood alongside the thought leaders and visionaries to reimagine the future of education in Pakistan.
In his keynote address, Dr. Bari emphasized the symbiotic relationship between health and education, noting that health is a prerequisite for learning, while education is a determinant of health. He advocated for school-based health services, such as routine screenings, mental health counseling, and nutrition programs, positioning schools as critical access points for these services. Dr. Bari also highlighted the importance of a comprehensive health education curriculum and introduced Indus Yaqeen’s i-SHIP program, a health education initiative designed in collaboration with IHHN’s clinical faculty to empower students with essential health knowledge and life skills.
Additionally, Dr. Bari addressed the importance of addressing socioeconomic disparities, stating that integrated reforms in health and education are crucial for reducing inequities. He called for training educators to recognize and address health-related barriers to learning and fostering community partnerships to create a supportive network for students. By investing in holistic reforms, Dr. Bari concluded, Pakistan could cultivate a healthier and more educated generation, setting the stage for long-term national progress.
Dr. Bari’s words resonated with the summit’s vision of transformative change, reminding us that progress in education must go hand-in-hand with advancements in health to empower future generations and pave the way for a more equitable society.
