Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Established at RTEH

Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital (RTEH) has successfully established a Multidisciplinary Tumor Board (MTB) with the aim of improving cancer treatment planning and decision-making. This significant milestone was achieved through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Muhammad Shamvil Ashraf, Executive Director of the Medical Services Directorate at the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Nadeem Abbasi, Chairman of the MDT Tumors Board Committee & Transdisciplinary, Professor of Radiation Oncology at AKU, Karachi.

The formal inauguration ceremony took place on June 2, 2023, on the RTEH campus, with attendees present both physically and virtually. The overarching objective of the MTB is to ensure that every cancer case is thoroughly discussed within the tumor board before finalizing the treatment plan. The event was hosted by Dr. Muhammad Irshad Hussain, Head of the General Surgery Department, and Dr. Sana Ehsan Ullah, Postgraduate Resident in General Surgery at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital, Muzaffargarh.

In today’s healthcare landscape, where cancer treatment options are becoming increasingly complex and nuanced, the involvement of clinicians from various specialties is crucial for making the best decisions in patient care. The MTB approach entails a team of healthcare specialists, including surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and histopathologists, coming together to review and discuss each case thoroughly. This collaborative effort enables the board to recommend the most suitable treatment options and management approaches.

Among the esteemed participants in the Multidisciplinary Tumor Board are Dr. Ahmed Nadeem Abbasi, Professor of Radiation Oncology at AKU, Karachi, Dr. Mazhar Ali and Dr. Zeeshan, Consultant Urologists, Dr. Safdar Ali Sabri, Dr. Muhammad Qasim Naeem, and Dr. Abdul Razzaq, Consultant Radiologists, Dr. Suhail, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Dr. Samiullah and Dr. Amna Asif, Consultant Histopathologists, and Dr. Zahida Liaqat and Dr. Afshan, Consultant Gynecologists & Obstetricians.

The establishment of the MTB at RTEH reflects the commitment of RTEH and its healthcare professionals to continuously improve and optimize cancer treatment outcomes for the benefit of patients in need.
