During the inauguration, Mr. Nigel Fealy, Clinical & Research Manager (HITAC), Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, delivered an insightful introduction to the course, outlining its purpose, scope, and impact on the quality of patient care. He emphasized the importance of structured, evidence‑based respiratory education for frontline healthcare providers.

Immediately following the formal remarks, the first module of the 11‑week course was conducted, officially launching the academic program for the inaugural cohort.

A celebratory cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the beginning of this transformative initiative, symbolizing collaboration and the shared vision of enhancing patient care.

The RESP‑ICU program spans 11 weeks and is designed using a blended learning approach that includes recorded lectures, on‑site integration sessions, practical skill rotations, and structured Scenario‑based assessments. The program will be conducted multiple times each year to ensure that the maximum number of physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists across specialties—including Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, and Obstetrics & Gynecology—can benefit from this training. In line with IHHN’s commitment to wider healthcare improvement, the course will be open to both Indus employees and external candidates across Pakistan.

In 2025, Mr. Masood Ahmed, CEO of Hospicare, the official vendor for Fisher & Paykel in Pakistan, generously donated two Airvo 2 High‑Flow Oxygen Therapy devices to the Indus Hospital Karachi campus. This donation has significantly strengthened the hospital’s ability to provide modern oxygen therapy and reflects Hospicare’s dedication to improving respiratory care nationwide.
