Indus Hospital Hosts MRCS Part II Examination
The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) achieved a major milestone in medical education by hosting the MRCS (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons) Part II examination for general surgery in Pakistan. The international examination was conducted at IHHN’s Korangi Campus from December 12 to 17, with over 200 candidates assessed during the six-day period.
The MRCS is a globally recognized postgraduate qualification conducted by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of England, and is a key requirement for surgeons pursuing advanced training and professional accreditation in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed and Dr. Salma were enthusiastic to have the exams center in Karachi Pakistan. They conducted the exams with Dr. Basim Wahba along with other esteemed members. The exam was supervised by Mr. Charanjit Ubhi with Ms. Aisha Hashmi Acting Director of Exams and Mr. Frank Smith Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England & MRCS Assessor.
With a growing number of candidates from Pakistan, the Royal College sought to establish a local examination center for MRCS Part II. After reviewing several venues, Indus Hospital’s Korangi Campus was selected for its ability to meet the stringent academic and logistical standards required for an international examination. The College also cited IHHN’s commitment to providing free-of-cost, high-quality healthcare regardless of patients’ ability to pay as a core reason for its selection, aligning strongly with its own values of ethical practice and social responsibility.
The examination was conducted smoothly under strict international protocols, ensuring transparency, fairness, and academic rigor throughout. The successful hosting of MRCS Part II reflects IHHN’s growing role in supporting postgraduate medical education and fostering global academic partnerships.
By enabling internationally recognized examinations to be held locally, IHHN continues to reduce barriers for Pakistani medical professionals while reinforcing its mission of excellence, equity, and service.
