IHHN Performs Badin Campus’ First Open Partial Nephrectomy

A 42-year-old male, a known case of hypertension and left-sided renal cell carcinoma, underwent robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy in 2022. During his follow-up, a CT scan of the KUB revealed a recurrence of the tumour in the upper pole of the left kidney, measuring approximately 2 cm. Considering the recurrence, the patient was planned for an open partial nephrectomy.

The procedure was successfully performed by Dr. JAI Kumar at Dr. Sikandar Ali Mandhro Civil Hospital Badin, managed by Indus Hospital & Health Network. This also marked the first open partial nephrectomy performed at the Badin Campus.

Post-operative histopathological examination confirmed complete excision of the tumour with tumour-free surgical margins, indicating successful surgical clearance.

This case represents an important milestone in the development of specialized urological surgical services at Badin Campus and demonstrates the Network’s commitment to bringing advanced and quality healthcare closer to communities in underserved areas.
