ESG Masterclass: Navigating Net Zero Healthcare Hosted by Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN)
Indus Hospital & Health Network recently hosted the ESG Masterclass on Navigating Net Zero Healthcare, a pioneering executive-level program designed to equip healthcare leaders with practical tools and strategic insights to transition toward climate-resilient, low-carbon health systems. As Pakistan’s leading not-for-profit tertiary healthcare network, IHHN is among the few institutions in the region to convene such a comprehensive sustainability masterclass.
The one-day program, delivered in collaboration with the International Hospital Federation (IHF)’s Geneva Sustainability Centre, was facilitated by Maja van Bruggen, Programme Lead: Learning, and Carmen Menéndez, Senior Project Officer at the Geneva Sustainability Centre. The session was attended by senior leadership from both clinical and non-clinical departments, including hospital executives, department heads, and administrators. Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, President IHHN, and Dr. Syed Zafar Zaidi, CEO IHHN, also joined, underscoring the top-level commitment to sustainable healthcare.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions on climate science and healthcare sustainability, and worked hands-on with the GSC Carbon Emissions Learning Lab simulation tool to model multi-year decarbonization pathways and prioritize actionable interventions. Modules on leadership transformation, collaborative engagement, and integrating sustainability with quality and financial performance highlighted the importance of commitment, integration, and cross-sector collaboration. The day concluded with participant reflection, certification, and a collective pledge to advance measurable progress toward net zero healthcare.
By hosting this masterclass for the first time in Pakistan, IHHN reinforces its commitment not only to delivering free, high-quality healthcare for all but also to shaping a sustainable, climate-responsible future for the healthcare sector nationally and globally.
