World Family Doctor Week 2025: Advocating Mental Resilience through Holistic Primary Care

The Family Medicine Department at Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), Karachi, commemorated World Family Doctor Week 2025 with a series of engaging activities from May 19 to May 23 under the global theme “Building Mental Resilience in a Changing World.” The week emphasized the vital role of family physicians in promoting mental well-being and offering compassionate care at the primary level.

The observance began on May 19 with a Public Awareness Skit performed in the Family Medicine waiting area. The skit, led by Dr. Tania Najeeb and Dr. Shabnam Rashid Khan, addressed how a family doctor helps and can tackle mental health challenges experienced by patients and caregivers. The performance was followed by insightful closing remarks from Dr. Gulshan and Dr. Nida Shamsi, highlighting the importance of family medicine and addressing mental health as part of holistic family care.

On May 20, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “Digital Detox for Doctors” tackled the mental strain caused by digital overload among healthcare professionals. Speakers Dr. Rabbia Tariq and guest expert Dr. Rafay Iqbal shared strategies to manage screen-time and improve emotional resilience. The session was moderated by Dr. Jawed Habib.

On May 22, the department hosted a Creative Display Competition featuring original artwork around the themes of Mental Health and Resilience. The submissions reflected unique perspectives and emotional narratives from healthcare providers. The winners were announced as follows:

1st Position: Dr. Tania Najeeb
2nd Position: Dr. Unaiza, Dr. Mahnoor, and Dr. Nisa

The celebration concluded on May 23 with a Public Awareness Talk at the PIB campus, where Dr. Sufyan Bin Saad led an interactive session titled “Mental Health Awareness and Building Resilience.” The session engaged community members and patients in meaningful conversations on recognizing emotional struggles and building mental strength in dynamic environments.

The week’s events were thoughtfully organized by Dr. Sufyan Bin Saad, Dr. Shumaila Zeeshan Abidi, Dr. Farhana Rahman, Dr. Jawed Habib, Dr. Shabnam Rashid Khan, and Dr. Tania Najeeb, whose collaborative efforts made the campaign impactful and inclusive.
