Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital Hosts Hands-On Training on Infection Prevention & Control

Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital (RTEH) in Muzaffargarh recently concluded a comprehensive fifteen-day training session on Infection Prevention & Control. The program, held from May 22 to June 2, 2023, aimed to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent the transmission of infections and maintain a safe healthcare environment.

The training was facilitated by esteemed trainers from Indus Hospital & Health Network’s flagship hospital in Korangi, Karachi. Ms. Arifa Khatoon, Sr. Manager; Mr. Farhan Zafar, Program Coordinator; and Mr. Syed Umer Farooq, Infection Control Practitioner, shared their expertise and guided the participants throughout the training.

The training program encompassed various components, including theoretical sessions, practical demonstrations, and simulation exercises. The theoretical sessions covered topics such as infection prevention and control principles, hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), sterilization techniques, and environmental cleaning. Practical demonstrations focused on hand hygiene techniques, proper use of gloves, masks, and gowns, safe handling of contaminated materials, and sterilization of medical instruments and equipment. Simulation exercises allowed participants to practice infection prevention strategies in realistic scenarios and receive real-time feedback from experienced trainers.

The benefits of hands-on training on infection prevention and control were highlighted, including improved compliance, enhanced skills, reduced infection rates, team collaboration, and the promotion of a safety culture within healthcare facilities. Evaluation mechanisms such as pre-and post-training assessments, observation of practical skills, and participant feedback were emphasized to ensure the effectiveness of the training. Continuous improvement was also stressed, with a focus on regularly updating training materials to incorporate the latest guidelines and emerging best practices.

The success of the training program was made possible by the contribution of the RTEH infection control team, including Dr. Rashid Kamal (ICC- Consultant ID), Ms. Nazia Khaliq, Ms. Shanza Sadiq, Ms. Ayesha Noreen, and Ms. Shameem Bibi (IC practitioners).
