Azhra’s Journey from Critical Illness to Hope at GDA Pak China Friendship Hospital

Gwadar : Six-year-old Azhra arrived at GDA Pak China Friendship Hospital, managed by Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) , in a critical condition. She had a complex congenital heart disease and had developed cardiogenic shock, leaving her heart struggling to pump blood effectively.

Her family brought her to the hospital in a state of distress. She was barely breathing, weak, and rapidly deteriorating.

The pediatric team immediately assessed her condition and began emergency treatment. With no echocardiography facility available at the center, the team had to rely on clinical assessment and the available chest X-ray to guide their decisions.

Despite these limitations, the team acted swiftly. Medications were administered, respiratory support was provided, and Azhra was placed under close observation and continuous care.

For the next 10 to 14 days, the pediatric team remained focused on her recovery. Doctors and nurses closely monitored her condition around the clock, responding to every change and providing supportive treatment to help stabilize her.

Gradually, Azhra began to improve.

Her breathing became steadier, her condition stabilized, and her strength slowly returned. What had initially appeared to be a critical situation began to turn into a story of hope.

The most memorable moment came when Azhra was strong enough to stand and walk out of the hospital on her own.

For her family, the transformation was deeply emotional. They had arrived at the hospital fearing the worst and were now preparing to return home with their daughter.

Reflecting on the experience, Azhra’s grandmother said, “We had lost hope. When we brought the baby girl from home, we came to the hospital crying, and when we were discharged from the hospital, we left for home with joy.”

Azhra is now stable and continues to visit the hospital for regular follow-up.

Her journey highlights the impact that timely intervention, clinical expertise, and dedicated healthcare teams can have, particularly in resource-limited settings. At GDA Pak China Friendship Hospital, the pediatric team’s commitment ensured that Azhra received urgent care when she needed it most.
