A Mother’s Journey of Hope: Zaida’s Story of Healing at Indus Hospital

A Mother’s Journey of Hope

The road from rural Balochistan to Karachi is long, dusty, and unforgiving. But for Zaida, every mile was worth it. Holding on to her five-year-old son, Ghulam, she travelled beside her husband with one purpose: to reach Indus Hospital.

Ghulam had been battling a painful kidney condition. Their young daughter was ill too, suffering from urethral injuries that required urgent care. With no savings for private treatment, and her husband earning a modest living as a farmer, their options were limited. But when it comes to a child’s life, a mother does not calculate distance or cost.

Zaida herself was unwell, her throat swollen with infected tonsils. Yet she never mentioned her own pain. She stayed by Ghulam’s bedside while her husband remained in another ward with their daughter. Together, they divided their strength so both children could heal. Zaida had heard about Indus from her sister, who praised its quality care and services provided completely free of charge.

Still, Zaida could hardly believe it until she saw it herself. From the moment they arrived, the staff welcomed them with warmth. Doctors examined Ghulam immediately, explaining every step gently. Everything was organized. Everything was free. Each time her husband came with updates about their daughter’s progress, Zaida felt a quiet wave of relief. For the first time in weeks, fear began to loosen its grip on her heart.

She often sat silently beside Ghulam as he slept, overwhelmed by gratitude. In a world where illness can push families deeper into poverty, they had found a place where compassion cost nothing. Because of the generosity of donors, Zaida did not have to choose which child to treat. She did not have to sell her belongings. She did not have to return home defeated.

Instead, she found hope. Zaida’s journey is more than a story of a mother’s love. It is proof that when kindness is shared, it travels far, from generous hearts to hospital wards, turning despair into healing. And it begins with people like you.
