IHHN Marks World Family Doctors Day with CME on Healthcare in Conflict Zones and Emergencies

The Department of Family Medicine organized a CME session on May 21, 2026, in observance of World Family Doctors Day, focusing on the theme, “The Role of Family Physicians in Conflict Zones and Emergencies.” The session highlighted the critical role of family physicians in ensuring continuity of care, emergency response, and community-based healthcare interventions during times of crisis and conflict.

The organizers and facilitators of the event were Dr Mehwish Mehmood,Dr Azfar Saleem,Dr Tania Najeeb and Dr Shumaila Zeeshan.

The CME comprised three insightful talks addressing various healthcare challenges encountered during emergencies and conflict situations.

The first session was delivered by Dr. Quratulain Shaikh, Consultant Infectious Diseases, who spoke on the burden of infectious diseases during times of war and humanitarian crises. She highlighted the increased risk of outbreaks, challenges in disease control, and the importance of preventive strategies in vulnerable populations.

The second talk was presented by Dr. Farhana Rehman, Specialist Family Medicine, who discussed the burden of non-communicable diseases during times of crisis and the essential measures required to ensure continuity of care for patients with chronic illnesses during emergencies.

The third session was conducted by Dr. Adeel Khatri, Consultant Emergency Medicine, who provided an informative overview of the triage system and emergency response protocols during disasters and conflict situations. His session emphasized the importance of preparedness, prioritization, and coordinated emergency care.

The CME concluded with an enlightening panel discussion, where important aspects of healthcare delivery during emergencies were further explored by the speakers and participants.

The closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Nida Shamsi, Head of epartment, Family Medicine & Community Health, followed by certificate distribution
