IHHN at ABNA 2025: Showcasing sustainable biobanking from Pakistan

Dr. Javeria Aijaz, section head Molecular Pathology and Biorepository, represented IHHN at the 22nd Annual Australasian Biospecimen Network Association (ABNA) Conference, held in Newcastle, Australia, in October 2025. The conference, themed “Biobanking: Evolving Through Time,” gathered global experts to share innovations shaping the future of biobanking.
Dr. Aijaz delivered a presentation titled “Biospecimen Utilization Patterns and Optimization Strategies at IHHN,” highlighting IHHN’s pioneering efforts to develop a biobank supporting locally relevant research in Pakistan. She shared how efficient sample utilization and resource-appropriate strategies have enabled impactful studies in pediatric acute leukemias and cystic fibrosis.
As part of a global panel discussion, Dr. Aijaz contributed perspectives on building biobanking capacity in low- and middle-income countries, emphasizing sustainable models that uphold international standards while addressing local realities.
“Attending ABNA was an opportunity to showcase IHHN’s progress and learn from global best practices,” said Dr. Aijaz. “It reaffirmed that even in resource-limited settings, innovation and collaboration can drive meaningful scientific impact.”
IHHN’s participation in ABNA 2025 reflects its growing global presence and commitment to advancing ethical, high-quality research that benefits patients and communities across Pakistan.
