Indus Hospital & Health Network Collaborates with Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas to Establish Pediatric Cancer Ward

As part of its ongoing mission to provide quality healthcare free of cost to underserved communities, Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) is taking a significant step forward in pediatric oncology care in interior Sindh.

On July 14, 2025, a delegation from Indus Hospital Karachi met with Divisional Commissioner Mirpurkhas, Mr. Faisal Ahmed Uqaili, to discuss the establishment of a dedicated pediatric cancer ward at the District Headquarters Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.

The Commissioner warmly welcomed the initiative and appreciated IHHN’s efforts, stating that the ward will be a vital step in protecting children across Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, and neighboring areas from the devastating impact of cancer. He assured full support in making this vision a reality.

During the session, Dr. Syed Ahmer Hamid from IHHN shared alarming data, highlighting that each year, 2,000 to 2,500 children in Sindh are diagnosed with cancer, with approximately 1,500 coming from rural areas. Many of these children face financial and logistical challenges in traveling to Karachi for treatment. In response, IHHN aims to bring early diagnosis and essential pediatric oncology care closer to home by initiating services at Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.

Following the meeting, IHHN’s team, along with local health authorities, visited the pediatric ward of Civil Hospital. A space on the second floor was identified and allocated for the new pediatric oncology ward. This collaboration marks a meaningful step toward decentralizing pediatric cancer care and improving access for underserved populations.

The next phase will involve joint efforts by IHHN and the Civil Hospital administration to develop and operationalize the ward.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rasheed Masood Khan, District Health Officer Dr. Amjad Azam, Medical Superintendent Dr. Hemji Chauhan, Child Specialist Dr. Wajiha Hassan, and IHHN representatives Dr. Ghulam Qadir Pathan and Dr. Naeem Jabbar, alongside other key officials.

Through this partnership, IHHN continues its commitment to equitable healthcare access and reducing the cancer care burden on families across Sindh.
