Indus Hospital & Health Network Observes World Diabetes Day 2024

The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) observed World Diabetes Day 2024 with a series of impactful activities across its campuses on November 14. The theme, “Diabetes and Well-being,” highlighted the significance of sustainable lifestyle changes and effective treatment strategies in addressing the diabetes crisis in Pakistan. With 30.8% of the population affected, IHHN reinforced its commitment to raising awareness, empowering communities, and providing quality care through its Diabetes Management Program, which has enrolled and treated over 33,000 patients.

Activities began with a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session at the Karachi campus on November 12, 2024, endorsed by the Pakistan Endocrine Society. The session, titled “Rethinking Diabetes: Screening, Complications, and Latest Developments,” featured renowned experts including Dr. Sumerah Jabeen, Dr. Ali Asghar, and Dr. Fauzia Akhtar, who shared insights into advancements in diabetes care. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and certificates of appreciation were presented to speakers and organizers.

On November 14, a Diabetes Awareness Walk was held at the Karachi campus, led by faculty, staff, and nursing students. The walk was followed by an engaging Diabetes Awareness Session, where healthcare professionals addressed the community, providing free diabetes screenings and valuable insights into prevention and management.

Across other IHHN campuses, similar efforts were made to mark the day. At PIB Colony and Baba Island campuses, specialists conducted educational sessions emphasizing lifestyle modifications to prevent and manage diabetes. At the Bhong Campus (Al Ghazi Trust Hospital), the day began with an awareness walk, followed by a session where personalized guidance on diet and medication was provided. At Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital (RTEH), Muzaffargarh, a week-long campaign included CME sessions for primary care physicians, diabetes screenings, and awareness walks, engaging patients, caregivers, and staff.

These activities showcased IHHN’s dedication to addressing the diabetes epidemic in Pakistan. The month-long campaign reaffirmed its mission of empowering communities with knowledge, promoting healthier lifestyles, and ensuring access to quality diabetes care for all.
