About Me:
In 2007, we started a mission of helping our fellow countrymen with the most modern healthcare facilities without charging a single rupee. The journey started with The Indus Hospital in Korangi Karachi. Today we successfully replicated the model nationwide and became Indus Hospital & Health Network.
Dr. Bari graduated from Dow Medical College, Pakistan, and received his fellowship in Cardiac Surgery from The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in 1995. During his days as a medical student, he established the Patient Welfare Association that set up the first Blood Center for Civil Hospital, worked as a volunteer to raise funds for the renovation of the Civil Hospital’s Emergency Department, and participated in the establishment of the Blood Center and a free Diagnostic Center.
After witnessing the dismal condition of the government-run hospitals and the plight of the poverty-stricken patients of the metropolis in the aftermath of the 1986 Karachi twin bomb blasts, Dr. Bari envisioned the creation of a multi-disciplinary tertiary care hospital that would serve the under-privileged population of Karachi with free and quality care. He, along with his friends and colleagues, established the casualty ward at the Civil Hospital. He also played an instrumental role in establishing a Cardiac Surgery Ward, an operation theatre, and an ICU.
In 2007, with the support of some philanthropists and businessmen, Dr. Bari and other co-founders established The Indus Hospital (TIH) in Korangi, Karachi, to provide indiscriminate, quality healthcare to all in a state-of-the-art paperless hospital. TIH has now grown into Indus Hospital and Health Network, Pakistan’s first nationwide healthcare network providing quality care to more than 5.4 million patients annually.
Dr. Bari’s work has been recognized both in Pakistan and abroad. In 2015, he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and was conferred the second-highest civilian award, Hilal e Imtiaz, on March 23, 2019.
Dr. Bari also has honorary doctorates from Hamdard University and Muhammad Ali Jinnah University. He is an Eisenhower fellow and recipient of the Achievement Award from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry. The Consumer Rights Protection Council of Pakistan also honored him with the “Proud Humanity Award.”
Dr. Bari currently serves as the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Health Task Force and Chairman of the Board of Governors Peshawar Institute of Cardiology. He is also a member of several committees and task forces, including the Sindh chief minister Task Force, the Corona Emergency Fund, the Policy Board Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, the Senate-Federal Urdu University of Arts & Technology, the Pakistan Society of Surgeons, the Pakistan Society of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons, and the Pakistan Medical Association Karachi.
