World Patient Safety Week 2026 at IHHN: Nigehban-e-Hayat, Safe Care for Life

Patient safety is an essential part of quality healthcare and a shared responsibility across every level of a healthcare organization. From effective communication and careful decision-making to identifying risks and following safe practices, every action can contribute to preventing harm and protecting patients.

With this commitment, Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) observed Patient Safety Week 2026 from 9 to 17 September, led by the Quality & Monitoring Directorate (QMD), in recognition of World Patient Safety Day on 17 September.

Drawing inspiration from this year’s theme, “Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases,” and slogan, “Safe Care for Life,” the message “Nigehban-e-Hayat” reflected the campaign’s focus on strengthening patient safety through awareness, engagement, and preventive care. The week featured a series of activities, including the Safety Pledge Wall, Patient Safety Card initiative, Patient Prevention Talk, fire safety training, and interactive awareness campaigns, encouraging healthcare teams to promote safer care practices across IHHN.

Throughout the week, employees were encouraged to learn, participate, and take ownership of safety. The Pledge Wall invited employees to make personal commitments to patient safety, while the Patient Safety Awareness Survey and Riddle Hunt provided interactive opportunities to reflect on safety in everyday healthcare.

Learning was also a key part of the campaign through capacity-building sessions covering NCD patient safety, sustainability, and practical safety measures, including fire safety precautions for patients with NCDs.

The campaign also encouraged meaningful discussion through a debate on system failures versus clinical errors in NCD care. The discussion highlighted the importance of strong systems, effective communication, teamwork, appropriate processes, and individual responsibility in preventing harm.

Another important focus was sustainability, encouraging employees to consider how responsible use of resources, reduction of avoidable waste, and everyday workplace practices can contribute to a safer and more responsible healthcare environment.

The week concluded with a Closing Ceremony on 17 September, bringing together leadership, healthcare teams, and participants to reflect on the activities and reaffirm their commitment to safer care.

Ultimately, Nigehban-e-Hayat is not simply a campaign message, it represents a shared responsibility. It can begin with noticing a risk, asking the right question, supporting a colleague, or taking one safer step.

At IHHN, the commitment to patient safety continues beyond Patient Safety Week, in every decision, every interaction, and every effort to improve care.
