3rd Anniversary of GDA Pak-China Friendship Hospital,Celebrating Three Years of Transforming Healthcare in Gwadar

Gwadar- 1 December 2025: Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) today celebrated the 3rd anniversary of the GDA Pak-China Friendship Hospital, marking three years of rapid transformation and strengthened health services for Gwadar and the wider Makran Division.

Since the Government of Balochistan handed the hospital to IHHN in November 2022 under a Public-Private Partnership model, the 150‑bed facility has expanded services, upgraded infrastructure, and significantly improved access to free, quality healthcare for local communities.

The anniversary ceremony was attended by senior government and community leaders. Director General Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), Mr. Moin‑ur‑Rehman Khan, was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Member Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat‑ur‑Rehman; Chief Operating Officer IHHN, Mr. Mazhar Ahmed Siddiqui; Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abdul Shukoor; DHO Gwadar Dr. Yasir Tahir; community leader Mr. Arshid Kalmati; representatives from the Military Medical Corps; members of Gwadar Civil Society; and education partners including the Principal of GDA Public School and Head of Campus Dr. Affan Faiq Zada. The event also featured a special recorded message from President IHHN, Prof. Dr. Abdul Bari Khan.

Three years of impact

In his recorded remarks, Prof. Dr. Abdul Bari Khan said that bringing modern healthcare to Gwadar — once an aspiration — has been realised within three years. He noted that the hospital has provided free treatment to more than 650,000 patients since its handover and highlighted the institution’s role in creating local employment — over 80% of the 487‑strong workforce are from the local community.

Dr. Affan Faiq Zada, Head of Campus, briefed attendees on the hospital’s current capabilities and future plans. He said the campus now runs more than 15 clinical departments, with plans to expand clinical services to 25 departments. The hospital provides essential services — Emergency, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Blood Bank and Nursery — free of charge, serving thousands of patients daily.

Dr. Affan also outlined ongoing development projects, including the establishment of a School of Medical Technology and plans for an associated Medical College, aiming to evolve the campus into a reputable teaching hospital that will strengthen local health education and long‑term sustainability.

COO IHHN, Mr. Mazhar Ahmed Siddiqui, reiterated that Indus’s mission goes beyond treatment to serving humanity. He highlighted that while IHHN operates across Karachi, Sindh, Punjab and several districts of Balochistan (including Quetta, Dera Bugti and Sui), the Gwadar campus represents a modern healthcare model offering services not always available even in provincial capitals.

MPA Maulana Hidayat‑ur‑Rehman praised the hospital’s progress and its positive impact on patients’ lives. He observed that residents no longer need to travel to other cities for treatment; instead, patients are coming to Gwadar — from across Balochistan and even neighboring Iran — underscoring public trust in IHHN’s care.

DG GDA Mr. Moin‑ur‑Rehman Khan described the Pak‑China Friendship Hospital as a key pillar of CPEC’s social sector commitments. He affirmed GDA’s continued support for healthcare innovation and collaborative investment to further strengthen the project.

The ceremony brought together government officials, civil society, military medical representatives, education partners and local leaders — reflecting the collective effort behind the hospital’s success. Dr. Affan expressed gratitude to IHHN leadership, GDA, the district administration, GPA, political and social leaders, Military Medical Corps and the people of Gwadar for their support, and thanked the hospital team for their dedication.
