Indus Hospital & Health Network Celebrates World Pharmacist Day 2025

The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) Karachi joined the global community in celebrating World Pharmacist Day 2025, highlighting the indispensable role pharmacists play in ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered healthcare. This year’s theme, introduced by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), “Think Health, Think Pharmacist”, underscored the trust and expertise that pharmacists bring to medication management and patient safety.

Patient Awareness Sessions Empower Communities

The celebrations began on September 22nd with a series of patient awareness sessions held across IHHN campuses, including Karachi Campus (KC), Baba Island, SSMC & PIB. Designed by Clinical Pharmacist Dr. Sheikh Muhammad Saad and conducted by trainee pharmacists, these interactive sessions educated patients on vital healthcare topics:

• Safe storage and disposal of medicines
• Diabetic foot care
• Scabies management
• Correct reconstitution of oral suspensions

By directly engaging with patients, IHHN reinforced its mission of improving medication adherence, safety, and health literacy within communities.

Honoring the Role of Pharmacists in Patient Safety

The main event took place on September 25th at IHHN-KC, moderated by Dr. Umme Ammara. In his opening remarks, Dr. Arif Ali Arain, Head of Pharmacy Services, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to quality and patient-centered care. Dr. Aslam Shah, Chief of Pharmacy Services, presented key clinical interventions achieved over the past year, showcasing how vigilant medication management leads to improved patient outcomes.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Ashar Alam, Medical Director of IHHN-KC, applauded the pharmacy team’s exceptional contributions and called for greater recognition of pharmacists as essential healthcare providers.

Celebrating Excellence in Pharmacy Services

The event concluded with an Employee Appreciation Ceremony, where outstanding pharmacy staff were honored with shields for excellence in:

• Clinical interventions
• Near-miss reporting
• Adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting

Special recognition was also given to team members demonstrating exemplary punctuality, attendance, and dedication, particularly for new employees who joined within the last six months. In his closing remarks, Dr. Abdul Manan extended gratitude to the pharmacy team for their tireless service to patients.
