Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti Lauds RDMC-IHHN Partnership for Advancing Healthcare in Chaghi
Nokundi, Balochistan – January 18, 2025: A landmark visit to the Community Health and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre in Nokundi showcased the transformative impact of the partnership between Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) and Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN). The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of Barrick Gold, Mr. Mark Bristow, senior government and military officials, and RDMC executives, attended this significant event.
Dr. Nabeela Shahid, Director Programmes at IHHN, briefed the distinguished guests on the initiative’s success in providing free, high-quality healthcare to underserved communities in Balochistan’s Chagai District.
The collaboration between RDMC and IHHN has revolutionized healthcare access in one of Pakistan’s most remote regions. The Chief Minister praised the initiative, emphasizing its exceptional quality of services, involvement of local staff, and its potential to shape a healthier future for the Nokundi community. The MCH Centre has brought healthcare closer to home, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming travel. It offers 24/7 services, including outpatient care, emergency services, pharmacy access, over 32 types of laboratory tests, X-ray and ultrasound facilities, maternal and child health services, a labor room, and ambulance services for referrals—all free of charge.
The project’s focus on local empowerment is evident, with over 90% of staff hailing from Balochistan, including more than 80% from the Chagai District. This initiative has created significant local employment opportunities and empowered women by offering technical training and roles in healthcare. In collaboration with RDMC, IHHN has reached over 70,000 community members, delivering comprehensive healthcare services.
Mr. Mark Bristow commended the partnership as an exemplary model of public-private collaboration. Government officials and RDMC executives expressed their admiration for the initiative and highlighted its potential for future expansion to benefit more communities.
The MCH Centre in Nokundi is a beacon of progress, demonstrating the power of dedicated partnerships in addressing healthcare challenges. By prioritizing access, quality, and professional development, RDMC and IHHN are paving the way for a healthier and more self-reliant future for the region.
