World Immunization Week 2024: Celebrations and Impact

Introduction

World Immunization Week is typically celebrated in the last week of April each year. It’s a global public health campaign led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government of Pakistan to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination in preventing diseases and promoting health. Throughout the week, various activities are organized worldwide to highlight the benefits of immunization and to advocate for increased access to vaccines for all individuals, regardless of their geographical location or socio-economic status. 

Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHNN) is regularly conducting immunization programs with the agenda of facilitating all women and children visiting IHNN to get the desired coverage that requires. According to recent data till March 2024, IHNN has successfully vaccinated 1255276 women and children. Currently, IHHN is successfully running its immunization program on 17 sites across Pakistan.

Celebration at Indus Hospital, Korangi Campus, Karachi

At IHHN, World Immunization Week is commemorated through a series of engaging and informative activities aimed at educating the community about the significance of vaccination. The hospital organizes vaccination drives, and health talks to empower individuals with knowledge about the importance of immunization in preventing diseases. Following the directions of the Director PCP Dr. Hiba Ashraf, the PCP team & Immunization team IHNN celebrated World EPI Day on different sites across Pakistan. During this event, on-site sessions were organized, providing awareness sessions on EPI to patients and their attendants, emphasizing its significance. These sessions were conducted with every new arrival and their attendants to ensure maximum dissemination of information. According to the patient’s feedback, such awareness sessions should continue, as they not only enhance knowledge but also dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding EPI to a great extent.
