Teaching Skills that Saves Lives: ERC

Emergency Response Committee (ERC) is a clinical committee within the Medical Directorate of the Indus Health Network that has overall responsibility to ensure all healthcare staff are well-trained and able to efficiently treat acutely ill patient in a timely manner to prevent mortality and morbidity. The committee ensures formation of well-trained teams and availability of appropriate equipment in various locations of the hospital. The committee is also in the process to become an authorized training site of American Heart Association (AHA) at the Indus Hospital.

The ERC is conducting AHA-certified courses. Usually these courses are expensive, however, ERC is trying to cut the cost at the lowest possible prices. AHA offers following three types of courses: Basic life support (BLS); Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Currently, ERC has 5 BLS instructors; 2 PALS instructors; and 3 ACLS instructors.

These lifesaving trainings also includes: Neonatal Resuscitation Course (NRP); Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, and Emotional support (STABLE) Neonatal Course; Helping Baby Breath (HBB) Course.

ERC started training courses from January, 2018. So far, ERC has conducted 116 lifesaving courses and trained 1110 participants. (Jan, 2018 to December, 2019). These include 826 medical professionals in BLS. ACLS Courses started in October, 2018 and ERC have trained 46 Candidates, PALS Course started from July, 2018 and have trained 26 participants till December, 2019.

Faculty of the George Washington University, School of Medicine, USA conducted 8 NRP courses and trained 6 master trainer till September, 2019. ERC has conducted 13 NRP courses and trained 115 participants during 2019. ERC also conducted AHA CPR awareness session as community awareness program at different schools, colleges and hospitals and have trained 2468 participants in last two years.
