Training Description:
Medical Coding:
Medical coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes. The diagnoses and procedure codes are taken from medical record documentation, such as transcription of physician’s notes, laboratory and radiologic results, etc.
Medical codes translate that documentation into standardized codes:
- Patient’s diagnosis
- Medical necessity for treatments, services, or supplies the patient received
- Treatments, services, and supplies provided to the patient
- Any unusual circumstances or medical conditions that affected those treatments and services
Medical coding is performed all over the world, with most countries using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), the common system of codes that classifies every disease or health problem. ICD is maintained by the World Health Organization and modified by each member country to serve its needs. ICD has been updated periodically to reflect new discoveries in epidemiology and changes in medical understanding of the disease. The currently used ICD is its 10th revision.
Coding professionals review and assign International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) codes to inpatient hospital records.
This course features practical coding exercises to enhance your skills and validates proficiency in the correct application of medical codes in an inpatient hospital or facility as per international standards.
Prerequisites For Training: Masters in life sciences with basic knowledge of anatomy and medical terminologies.
Training Availability: Access is available for three (3) months from the registration date.

- Endocrine, Nutritional, and Metabolic System Conditions
- Mental, Behavioral, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders
- Diseases of the Blood and Blood-Forming Organs and Certain Disorders Involving the Immune Mechanism

Certificate of completion:

Cancer Registry:
It is the systematic collection of data of all the events of a cancer patient starting from presenting complaint to diagnosis till treatment and post-treatment follow-up. Cancer Registry is used to establish and maintain a cancer incidence reporting system, which tracks the number of new cancer cases diagnosed, also serves as an information resource for cancer research, and provides information to assist public health officials and agencies in planning and evaluating cancer prevention and cancer-control programs.
This course features practical coding exercises to enhance your skills and validates proficiency in the correct application of medical codes in an inpatient hospital or facility as per international standards.

- To introduce pediatric cancer registration and reporting system
- Use of ICD-O-3 for Morphology and Histology coding
- Introduces the student to the phases of clinical evaluation, diagnostic tests, staging cancer, and treating cancer that are part of a pediatric cancer patient’s medical journey
- To understand Medical and anatomical terminology that is commonly used in the cancer setting as well as the fundamentals of what cancer is and how it forms.
- review the most common types of pediatric cancer,
- Knowledge and skills necessary to successfully abstract and report quality pediatric oncology data.
- Familiarizes students with what is contained in the medical record, what a source document is, and the challenges of working with the medical record.
