Description
ANGIOPLASTY
An angioplasty of a procedure for patients with coronary artery disease, particularly following a heart attack. In this, the arteries in your heart are blocked by fatty plaques. To restore blood flow through the artery, the procedure involves the doctor threading a thin tube through a blood vessel. The tube has a balloon catheter on the end and once in place, the balloon is inflated to push the plaque outward. This widens the artery and restores blood flow. An angioplasty is often combined with the placement of a stent which helps open up the artery, decreasing its chance of narrowing again.
Indo-Pakistani populations have one of the highest risks of coronary artery disease.
