World TB Day and Indus Hospital

The Indus hospital marked the world TB day by holding a TB day event on the 23rd of March 2010 at the filter clinic in the hospital premises.

The idea of the event was two folds, one was to create awareness about the disease and its prevention and two was to honor the Multi Drug Resistant (MDR) TB patients, registered with the Indus Hospital TB Programme to encourage them to continue their ongoing treatments by presenting cured patients as role models.

A total of 278 people attended the event. Hospital CEO and renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, Mr. Khalid Khanani member of the board of directors, Dr. Aamir Executive Director IRD, Dr. Naseem Salahuddin Director Infectious Disease at Indus Hospital, Dr. Mateen from Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi and Mr. Tariq Qaiser chief architect of the indus hospital expansion plan, along with 105 MDR TB patients were amongst the attendees. Renowned television artist Miss Zeba Bakhtiar also graced the occasion with her presence.

Dr. Bari, Dr. Amir and Dr. Naseem and Miss Zeba Bakhtiar addressed the audience with words of encouragement and motivation. Cured patients and treatment supporters were also invited onstage to share their experiences.

The event ended with a tour of the new TB OPD Clinic of the Indus Hospital and lunch.
